Accessing CityRail for customers with disabilities

CityRail continues to improve services and facilities in an effort to ensure they are accessible to our customers. This section is designed to help you plan your journey with us. Use the menu on the left for further information.

Selected CityRail stations have enhanced facilities such as lifts, ramps, continuous handrails, plasma screens, hearing loops, wheelchair accessible toilets and portable platform-to-train ramps.

CityRail has also improved security at stations through deployment of a large contingent of transit officers, and the installation of brighter lighting, improved public address systems, emergency help points and 24-hour video surveillance.

CityRail is committed to ensuring the accessibility of new stations and new trains, the progressive upgrade of existing facilities, services and information, and the provision of a safe, clean, secure and reliable service which accommodates as many of our customers as possible.

If you would like more information on accessible public transport options in NSW, please see the Ministry of Transport Accessible Transport Action Plan for NSW transport agencies.

RailCorp’s commitment to making CityRail accessible
Easy Access station upgrades make it easier for less able people with young children, disabilities or luggage to use CityRail services. These upgrades can include the installation of ramps, lifts, tactile tiles, improved lighting and hearing loops.

It is important that CityRail services are accessible to as many people as possible, and that’s why we are investing so heavily in upgrading our stations.

More than $385 million has been spent upgrading stations since the Easy Access program started in the mid 1990s.

Ninety-one stations are now independently accessible to people who use wheelchairs and a further 63 are accessible to people in wheelchairs with help from a friend or carer.

While this is good progress, we are committed to doing more work, and more than $48 million has been budgeted for the Easy Access program this financial year.

At the end of 2006/07, Easy Access works will have started, finished or will be under way at 16 stations.
