Travelling at night

Nightsafe areaAfter 8.00pm in the city and 7.00pm in outer suburbs, the Nightsafe trains operate. Nightsafe means only the two carriages nearest the train guard are open to passengers.

A bright blue external light indicates the location of the guard. When waiting for trains, you should walk along the station platforms to the Nightsafe Area, clearly marked on the platform edge adjacent to where the Nightsafe carriages will stop.

After the trains have stopped...

NightRide buses
NightRide buses replace train services from midnight to Sydney suburban areas. Our suburban timetables contain timetables for specific NightRide routes. Valid Return, Off-Peak Return, Pensioner Excursion, 7 Day RailPass, FlexiPass or TravelPass tickets can be used. If you do not have a valid ticket, you should pay when boarding the bus. Single rail tickets cannot be used.
