What work is being done?
Since 1989, RailCorp has been undertaking an extensive track reconstruction program on the rail corridor between Granville and Lithgow. This has occurred in various stages - by replacing timber sleepers with concrete sleepers and installing new rails and ballast - on different sections of track.
This upgrade is the final stage in the overall track reconstruction program.
In October 2007 the section of track between Granville and Mount Victoria was completed and this upgrade will see the completion of track reconstruction works between Mount Victoria
and Lithgow.
The completion of the track reconstruction program will provide long-term benefits by improving the reliability of train services, particularly during the warmer months.
